Preparing Your 🏡 Home For Guests

As we get closer to the end of the year, more people are taking time off to visit friends, family or simply just getaway (and make sure those final vacation days that don’t roll over get put to good use). For those of you who plan to host guests, we’ve put together this handy list to help you best prepare your home.

1. Declutter your entryway and main areas.

What’s the first glimpse your guests will see when they arrive? The entryway. Second? The main areas like your living room, kitchen, etc. Doing a quick clean up will make all the difference in setting the tone for your guests visit.

2. Clean the bathrooms.

Now, this probably goes without saying, but it’s so important to do a thorough deep clean of the bathrooms your guests will have access to. This is a space where you want your guests to feel comfortable, not a space that’ll remind them of the pit stop they took at the local gas station. Bonus points for putting out a few toiletries (like a toothbrush, shampoo, soap) on top of fresh, fluffy towels.

3. Make space for your guests.

Have you ever stayed in someone’s guest room with their items strewn across the room? Not fun, not stress-free, not welcoming. Prep the bed, provide your guests with a few extra pillows/blankets and clean out a drawer/closet space for them. Don’t forget to make sure you have available outlets for guests to plug in their devices. As a final touch, we recommend writing a little welcome note with the wifi password.

4. Add a personal touch.

For the guests you know personally, take a few minutes to think about what they like. For example, maybe there’s a game they really enjoy playing or a snack that they just can’t get enough of. Whatever that personal touch may be, be sure to have it on hand for their visit. Hosting a guest you don’t know too well? Pick up a few staple items, like sparkling cider, or even whip up a quick batch of grandma’s famous chocolate chip cookies to welcome them with.
